Before quilts were art objects created from designer fabric, they were articles of necessity pieced from whatever fabric was available. Participants will examine three dozen family quilts pieced on southwestern Arkansas between 1920 and 1950. Patterns range from the well-known double wedding ring to rarer patterns like the last rose of summer. Many quilts come with stories of the women and men who made them by lantern light after days spent working on the farm.
