
All new surface miners must have 24 hours of training – MSHA 30 CFR 48.25/46.5. Topics covered include statutory rights of miners and their representatives; authority and responsibility of supervisors; self-rescue and respiratory devices; transportation controls and communication systems; introduction to work environment; escape and emergency evacuation plans; fire warning and firefighting; ground control; working in areas of high walls, water hazards, pits, and spoil banks; illumination and night work; health; electrical hazards; first aid; explosives; and health and safety of tasks assigned to new miners.
