Prairie dogs are a keystone species of the American West. Far from being pests in need of extermination, prairie dog communities and activities benefit over 150 other species from rattlesnakes to bison. The distinct language of prairie dogs is second only to human language in the number of terms decoded by scientists. We will visit a nearby prairie dog community. You must be able to walk a mile on uneven dirt surfaces. There are no restrooms at the site. Wear sturdy walking shoes, a hat, long-sleeve shirts, long pants, sunscreen, and bring a sack lunch and binoculars.
