The major powers of the 19th century jostled to carve out empires around the globe. Greed, delusions of racial superiority, and technological innovation drove the imperial powers into the remotest areas of the world with little regard for the people living there. This class will look at the major events and personalities of the imperial era in Europe, Africa, and Asia and explore the divisions that would spark the First World War.
