CourseGraphic This lecture-recital class celebrates the magic and poetry of piano music. The piano was the dominant form of music making for 150 years. Composers made piano versions of their works for people to play at home. Learn how they arranged complex music that was written for a full orchestra, for 10 fingers. The art of transcription developed the art of piano playing and its technique. Enjoy lively music performed on the piano featuring transcriptions of opera, ballet, and incidental music for plays and compositions by Wagner, Liszt, Prokofiev, and Mendelssohn.
