ClassGraphic Join a special tour led by volunteers from the Sunrise Historic and Prehistoric Preservation Society, SHAPPS. Explore the former Colorado Fuel and Iron Company’s Sunrise Mine and Camp, situated at the top of a narrow valley in Platte County, Wyoming. Established in 1899 and closed in 1980, Sunrise was home to Wyoming’s first YMCA and an ancient red-ochre mining site. Get a behind-the-scenes look at ongoing, hands-on research with the archaeology field school in session. Bring a sack lunch, water, and snacks. Some walking is required; transportation between different parts of the town is provided.
