ClassGraphic This history of paleontology trip includes travel to Great Britain, France, Switzerland, and Germany.

The study of paleontology and geology has roots in Europe starting in the 1600s when people had time and interest in the natural world. The founders of paleontology include William Buckland who found the first dinosaur fossils; Georges Cuvier, an expert in comparative anatomy, respected vertebrate paleontologist, and founder of the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris; Mary Anning who collected fossils along the Lyme Regis coast and sold specimens to Cuvier, and Darwin who formulated the theory of evolution. We will visit places where these discoveries happened and museums that presented this material. We will dig and collect specimens in quarries in the same areas, including the beds where Archaeopteryx has been found, and Europe’s richest dinosaur area. Participants will see specimens that they have read about.
Trip leaders, J.P. Cavigelli and Melissa Connely, are Casper College employees and Tate Geological Museum members with 50+ years of paleontology experience. Participants are required to meet with the trip leaders before the trip, in person or digitally, and must attend the entire trip from June 13–28, 2020. Most of the trip takes place in the field. Some fieldwork may be physically strenuous; however, participation is optional.

A $500 per person deposit is due upon registration. Final payment is due March 31, 2020. There is no refund after March 31, 2020.
